That is the million-dollar question l Photo by Kerde Severin from Pexels

Before the pandemic, I often had to drive around the county to attend work meetings. Sometimes it would be a pain if there was traffic or I was tired. But mostly I would enjoy having a break in my workday, listening to a podcast or some banging tunes and if a stop off at a service station on the way involved a treat coffee or cake, then all the better.

I found that I did a lot of thinking during these trips. The rhythmic vibrations of the car tyres on the motorway road somehow jiggled free various thoughts that had been rolling around in my mind allowing them to form and pop out at helpful intervals. Fun fact — the CEO of Spanx used to fake a commute to her office for exactly the same reason. She would drive miles around her neighbourhood even though the building she needed to get to was easily within walking distance.

Now because of the pandemic, I work from home and all my meetings are held online. I have no need to venture out of the comfort of my chair — except to the fridge for snacks. I didn’t realise how much I missed this precious drive time until I made the 45-minute solo trip back from an afternoon tea with friends the other week.

Prior to then, I had been thinking a lot about time, how to maximise my time, what to do to get more time, what would I do if I had more time? And then the thought popped out as if it were some divine voice…
